RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) is a powerful tool that captures information about how organisms respond to stimuli in their environment at the molecular level. A common RNA-Seq approach involves isolating and sequencing all of the messenger RNA (mRNA) in a tissue sample taken from an organism. Researchers can compare patterns observed in RNA-Seq data to understand how individuals respond to the environment over minutes, hours, or days and how populations evolve in response to the environment over millions of years.

I am hosting a bioinformatics workshop geared towards undergraduate students and new users from June 9 to June 13, 2025 at Radford University in Radford, Virginia
. There is no registration fee and housing and meals will be provided at no cost. Travel awards to cover other expenses are available. Applications can be submitted here until March 31, 2025. Please contact me with any questions!

Workshop topics will include:
  • the application of genomic and transcriptomic data in biology and ecology
  • high throughput sequencing technologies
  • high performance computing
  • command line navigation and basic R coding

Course materials for the 2022 workshop held at Louisiana State University are freely available and can be downloaded from Dryad:
